Example

Return the weekday name based on a given number:

SELECT WeekdayName(3);

Definition and Usage

The WeekdayName() function returns the weekday name given a number from 1 to 7.

Syntax

WeekdayName(number, abbreviate, firstdayofweek)

Parameter Values

Parameter Description
number Required. A number (from 1 to 7) that represent a day of the week
abbreviate Optional. True means that the weekday name is abbreviated. False means that the weekday name is not abbreviated. False is default
firstdayofweek Optional. Specifies the first day of the week. If omitted, Sunday is the first day of the week. Can be one of the following values:
  • 0 = Use the NLS API setting
  • 1 = Sunday
  • 2 = Monday
  • 3 = Tuesday
  • 4 = Wednesday
  • 5 = Thursday
  • 6 = Friday
  • 7 = Saturday
